Favorite Fitness Apps, for now...

FitBit.com
This is my go to app for tracking my fitntess data, probably because I own a FitBit Flex.  The little wrist strap keeps track of my steps, movement, and even sleep patterns.  Combined with the iPhone app I'm also able to record my calories, scan food packages for nutritional info, record my weight and track daily exercise.  So although I use the Wahoo Fitness app and BlueTooth HR monitor, I still record exercise sessions in the FitBit app.  It's my home base fitness journal.  The friends feature and challenges also help me motivate to workout on those days where I hardly feel like putting on my shoes.

MatchUp.io
For my friends who use their iPhone apps or own another device like a JawBone or Nike Fuel, this website lets me set up challenges across the different platforms.  Now I can compete with all the UEN PD office no matter what device we use!

Endomondo.com
Edmomondo is set up to make exercise fun and give you real time feedback while exercising.  This app doesn't require any special devices other than your smartphone and utilizes your social media accounts like Facebook to connect your fitness activities with friends.  Although the app is free you can also subscribe to a premium version for more advanced features. To get started just download the app and take the initial fitness assessment.

Tonight's Questions:

Q1: Considering you’re all on Twitter I’m assuming you’re a smartphone owner, so... do you use any fitness apps on your phones?  Which ones?

Q2: How does using a fitness app or wearable piece of tech help motivate you to exercise and/or make healthy decisions?

Q3: If we can agree that this kind of tech helps people to be healthy, then the big question is how do we use it with students?  Please share experiences and/or ideas.

Q4: Video games are often blamed for childhood obesity, but what about Interactive Video Games? Has anyone used DDR or any other games with students or children?  How did it go?

Q5: Along with fitness apps there are many nutritional, food tracking, and even sleep tracking apps. Is there a place for these in our schools and classrooms?

Q6: What are your plans and goals for this year? How do you plan to achieve them? Share some ideas, tips, and tricks.
